In summer 2022 I was contacted by Magnet Today to share my story and views regarding reconciliation. I titled the video poem "Tapwewin" and in my language means 'speaking the truth'. I reflected on the message I wanted to share in regards to both my personal and professional path. As we are all on our own journey of self-discovery, this is the message I wish to share in every presentation I deliver regarding the history and impacts of the residential school system.
Many in my immediate family attended either a residential school or Indian Day School at: Horden Hall, Moose Factory, ON (mother, uncles), Fort George, Chisasibi, QC(grandparents mother side), St. Annes, Fort Albany, ON (grandparents father side) and Christ the King, Moosonee, ON (father). The residential school system does not define who they are or my path, but it is important to share these stories towards a path of healing, understanding and forgiveness.
